How do you move from delivering results yourself to creating impact through others? In an interview, Alexander Wolf, Global Segment Manager Chemicals at IPCO, shares how Novare’s Learn to Lead Program helped him shift his mindset, strengthen collaboration across a global organization, and lead change with greater intention and trust.
Can you briefly describe your role at IPCO and how you view leadership in your position?
Since the beginning of 2026, I have been serving as Global Segment Manager Chemicals at IPCO. In this role, I am responsible for driving our global strategy and business development activities within the chemical industry, with a particular focus on our pastillation technologies. My responsibilities include defining market strategies, supporting regional sales teams worldwide, developing key customer relationships, and aligning our global organization around common objectives.
Leadership for me means creating a collaborative environment, empowering people, and helping teams and individuals reach their full potential while delivering sustainable business growth.
What motivated you to join the Novare Learn to Lead Program?
Throughout my career, I have learned that technical expertise and commercial success alone are not enough to become an effective leader. I joined the Novare Learn to Lead Program because I wanted to further develop my leadership capabilities, gain new perspectives, and better understand how to inspire and enable people across different cultures and functions. I saw it as an opportunity to challenge myself, learn from experienced coaches and other participants, and become a more conscious and impactful leader.

What were the most important insights or mindset shifts you gained during the program?
One of the biggest insights was realizing that leadership is not about having all the answers or driving every decision yourself. It is about creating an environment where people feel trusted, motivated, and empowered to contribute. The program reinforced the importance of active listening, vulnerability, and adapting my leadership style to different situations and individuals. I learned that sustainable success comes from enabling others to succeed rather than trying to solve everything personally.
Another highlight was the incredible inspiration I gained from both the program directors and the guest speakers. Their personal stories, experiences, and perspectives challenged my thinking and demonstrated that authentic leadership comes in many different forms. Their openness and willingness to share both successes and setbacks made the learning experience especially impactful.

How have you applied these insights in your day-to-day leadership at IPCO?
I have become much more intentional in how I communicate and collaborate with colleagues and teams across our global organization. I spend more time listening, asking questions, and understanding different perspectives before making decisions. I also place greater emphasis on coaching and involving others in problem-solving and strategic discussions. This has strengthened collaboration, increased engagement, and helped create stronger alignment around our goals and priorities.
Another important takeaway has been the role of change management. We operate in an environment where customer expectations, technologies, and market conditions are evolving faster than ever. The program reinforced that effective leadership today is not only about responding to change but proactively leading people through it. I have become more conscious about communicating the “why” behind changes, creating alignment, and helping teams embrace new ways of thinking and working. In today’s rapidly changing business environment, the ability to adapt, stay agile, and bring people along on the journey is a critical leadership capability.

What was your “case for change” going into the Learn to Lead Program, and how has your perspective on leadership evolved since then?
My case for change was to transition from being primarily a high-performing individual contributor to becoming a leader who creates impact through others. I wanted to move beyond simply driving results myself and instead build stronger networks, empower people, and foster collaboration across functions and regions.
Over the course of the program, this evolved into a broader understanding that leadership is ultimately about creating the conditions for others to thrive. Today, I focus much more on developing people, building trust, and creating an environment where teams can perform at their best and achieve success together. One of the most important takeaways from the program is that leadership is a continuous journey of learning, reflecting, and growing alongside others.
